Indoor smoking ban prompts drop in heart attacksNew York's 2003 Clean Indoor Air Act has been credited with an 8% drop in heart attacks in the state, according to a new study. The State Health Department report claims the reduced exposure to second hand smoke has contributed to the drop in heart attacks. The Health DepartmentHarlan Juster from the Health Department said, "The moderate laws that were done in many counties did have an impact on reducing emissions and did protect people from secondhand smoke. This report speaks to the importance of having a comprehensive statewide ban on indoor smoking." The article stated that 22 American states require workplaces, bars and restaurants to be smoke free.
