Sleep deprivation and high blood pressure
UK researchers have showed sleep deprived women are at greatest risk for developing high blood pressure. The study was released in the American Heart Association journal Hypertension. The studyThe researchers analyzed data from almost 7000 people to show women who slept 5 or less hours a night were twice as likely to have hypertension that women who slept 7 or more hours a night. Study leader Francesco Cappuccio said in a statement, "Sustained sleep curtailment, ensuing excessive daytime sleepiness and the higher cardiovascular risk are causes for concern." He also stated, "Emerging evidence also suggests a potential role for sleep deprivation as a predictor or risk factor for conditions like obesity and diabetes."
