Seniors suffer from untreated blood pressure
Our SummaryThe study looked at people over 80 years old to determine, "how well blood pressure is being controlled in this group and determine the risk of high blood pressure among the elderly.", according to Forbes. From the Forbes article: "The reason why that is important is that there are very few data in this age group, and this is the fastest growing population group in the U.S.," said lead researcher Dr. Donald M. Lloyd-Jones, an assistant professor of preventive medicine at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine." The results of the study were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Lloyd-Jones discussed reasons for the lack of hypertension control including: the cost and quantity of pills currently taken by older people and concerns about medication side effects by their doctors. From the Forbes article: "Lloyd-Jones believes there are many reasons why older people aren't having their blood pressure controlled." and "that older patients should discuss with their doctor how best to control their blood pressure to lower their risk of heart attack and stroke." I hope many of our older readers benefit from this new study. Additional Sources
