A fit and healthy man suffered a cardiac arrest after drinking in excess of the recommended dose of Red Bull energy drink.

Mr Penboss drank 8 Red Bull soft drinks within 5 hours which resulted in his heart rate to accelerate rapidly before his heart stopped. He was revived with CPR and spent 6 days in hospital recovering.

Red Bull recommends you drink only 2 cans per day and claim the ingredients in Red Bull are legal and thoroughly tested.

Mr Penboss, a motorcross rider, said, "I was fully aware that you should have two cans a day. But they don't tell you what the consequences could be if you do exceed the recommended dose."

This incidence highlights that energy drinks are not soft drinks and shouldn't be consumed in excess due to their high caffeine levels.
