Pedometers help weight lossWearing a pedometer may help you to loose weight, even without dieting, according to a new study. A research analysis from the University of Michigan found wearing a pedometer helped to loose about 1 pound every 10 weeks or 5 pounds a year. The weight loss, even though small was achieved without dieting. The studyNine studies were reviewed of overweight people who started pedometer based walking programs without dieting or calorie restriction. Most of the studies asked the participants to walk 10,000 steps each day. The researchers concluded, "Pedometer-based walking programs result in a modest amount of weight loss. Longer programs lead to more weight loss than shorter programs. On average, participants lost 0.05 kg per week during the interventions." The study titled, "A Meta-Analysis of Pedometer-Based Walking Interventions and Weight Loss" was published in the Annals of Family Medicine.
