Home monitoring helps blood pressure controlPatients who monitor their blood pressure at home are up to 50% more likely to achieve blood pressure control, according to a new study. Home monitoring studyThe researchers studied 2,363 Japanese patients who were all on blood pressure lowering medication. Of the group of patients who monitored their blood pressure at home, they were 46% more likely to achieve a target of 140/90mmHg in the morning. They were also 36% more likely to achive 140/90mmHg in the evening and 23% more likely when having their blood pressure checked in the surgery. Researchers conclusionsThe research, published in the Journal of Human Hypertension stated in the journal: "Home BP measurements were associated with good hypertensive management. Our findings suggest that it is important that physicians recommend home BP measurements to their patients."
