A study at the Columbia University of New York tracked blood pressure levels and assessed cognitive impairment of over 900 people aged over 65 years. The researchers assessed such cognitive factors as;
Patients who were hypertensive (140/90mmHG or over) had a 70% greater risk of cognitive impairment compared to patients with normal blood pressure levels. Researcher Dr. Reitz said, "These results suggest that prevention and treatment of hypertension may lower the risk of cognitive impairment in elderly patients."
