Coffee can be good for your health
Our SummaryCoffee has been shown to offer a high level of cancer and heart disease fighting antioxidants in a new study. However, there seems to be as many pros for coffee as there are cons for its consumption. The health debate continues surrounding the benefits of drinking coffee with new research reported in the Independent this week. The study lead by Professor Joe Vinson of the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania shows that coffee provides significant quantities of antioxidants. Antioxidants are defined by Medterms as: "Any substance that reduces oxidative damage (damage due to oxygen) such as that caused by free radicals. Antioxidants may possibly reduce the risks of cancer and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). " The Independent reports: " The study found that both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee appeared to provide similar levels of antioxidants." Still the highest and healthiest ways of increasing antioxidants in the diet is by eating plenty of fruits and vegetables. The richest sources include; dates, cranberries and red grapes. For a complete list of sources of antioxidants check out the Alternative Medicine article; "Best Food Sources of Antioxidant Vitamins" However, for every study released discussing the benefits of coffee many exist against the drinking of coffee, especially for those with high blood pressure. For a list of the pros and cons of drinking coffee read of The Independent article ,"Coffee found to be high in health-giving antioxidants".
