Blood pressure benefits of naps

A new study has shown afternoon naps decrease blood pressure, heart rate and lowers the risk of heart attack.

The study

The report said volunteers spent 1 hour in the afternoon thoroughout the study either:

  • resting
  • lying in bed but not sleeping
  • relaxed but standing, or
  • sleeping.

Researchers tracked the volunteers cardiovascular activity to find those who slept for the hour had a significant drop in blood pressure, compared to those who just rested.

The drop in blood pressure occurred once the lights were out and just before the volunteers fell asleep.
